Is it really free?
Yes. The Classic 3–4 player widget is free to embed. You don’t need an account, a subscription, or an API key.
What can my visitors do?
Generate a Classic board, shuffle it, adjust the available generation options, and save the board as a PNG. This version is in English and supports 3–4 players. The full generator has other board sizes and more tools.
The widget is designed for visitors to use interactively. Automated bulk requests may be rate-limited.
Can I start with a particular board?
Yes. Enter an existing board code, with or without its #, in the optional “Starting board” field. Select Apply before copying the code. Without a code, the widget starts with the latest saved Classic board. Visitors can shuffle from either starting point.
Does it work on mobile?
The widget adapts to the width of its container. The embed code uses 100% width and a starting height of 760 pixels. Preview it in your layout and increase the height if you want more room for expanded options.
Do I need to add attribution or install updates?
The widget includes its own Catan Tools attribution, so no extra credit line is needed. It loads from this site, so improvements appear automatically without replacing your code.
Why is my site blocking the widget?
Your editor may strip iframe tags or require a plan that supports custom embeds. If you manage a Content Security Policy, allow the widget’s origin in your frame-src directive, keeping any other sources your site needs.
The widget origin is https://catan.soft2u.ro.
If your builder adds an iframe sandbox, the widget needs allow-scripts and allow-same-origin. PNG exports need allow-downloads; new-tab links need allow-popups. If your editor cannot allow these, link to the generator in a new tab instead.
What about privacy?
The embedded generator sends small usage counts to Catan Tools: widget loads, board generation, image download clicks, sharing actions and clicks to open the full generator. The server also counts map saves, loads and failed map requests.
We keep daily totals by embedding website hostname for historical reporting. These counters do not store IP addresses, account details, full referring page URLs or persistent visitor identifiers, and do not use cookies or browser storage. The embedding website is unavailable when the browser does not provide it.
Saved public boards separately include the requesting IP address. Temporary abuse controls use hashed IP addresses, and ordinary web-server logs may contain request details. The widget does not load advertising or third-party analytics scripts. Your own website’s scripts and privacy settings are separate.
