KNOW WHAT HAPPENS
Your photo.
Your choices.
A practical guide to the web toolkit and the web photo scanner used by the Android companion.
1 · CHOOSE & ALIGN
The full photo stays in your tab
Choosing, rotating and aligning a photo happen in your browser. You can enter the tiles manually without sending image crops for recognition.
2 · AUTO-READ
Tile crops go to the scanner
When you select “Read my tiles”, the site sends 19 small tile images to its recognition service at api.soft2u.ro. Check the suggested terrain and numbers; ports are selected manually.
The application processes these crops in memory and does not add them to a photo library or training dataset.
Try it without an account
The scanner offers a guest trial. An optional free account can provide further scan allowances; the scanner shows your current allowance. Limits can change and automatic recognition may be unavailable while busy. Manual tile entry stays available.
A browser identifier remembers guest usage for up to one year. Clearing it does not remove records already stored on the server. Session cookies support sign-in and request protection.
What else is saved?
- Scan usage
- The service records scan times, status and allowance usage, with an account ID or hashed guest identity. Abuse controls can use a hashed IP address. These records help manage access and investigate failures.
- Accounts
- Account details and a password hash are stored for sign-in. The scanner account page offers deletion for scanner-only accounts. Accounts with tournament responsibilities may need assistance; contact the creator.
- Board image headers
- If you customise your image header, we save its text, colours and uploaded logos with your account. Logo files are accessible through your signed-in account, including authorised support access. Your header is included in images you download and share, but is not added to a public map code or the embedded generator. You can replace or remove logos in the header editor; deleting your account also removes its saved header and logos.
- Shared maps
- Saving a board stores its terrain, numbers, ports, timestamp and the request IP address. A saved map can be opened by its code or link. Treat it as public, not as a private document. The original photo is not part of the shared map.
- Practice & analysis
- The server uses temporary caches for board analysis and practice decisions. These can include board values, placements, roads and reviews; they are separate from a published share link.
- Operational records
- Web server logs, security records and backups may also exist. Account deletion does not promise immediate removal of every audit record or backup. Contact the creator about retention or a deletion request.
Cookies and measurement
Pages using Google Analytics offer a cookie choice. Their Google tag can load with analytics storage denied before a choice; this can still send cookieless measurement signals. Accepting analytics allows analytics storage. Use “Cookie settings” on the generator to change the choice.
These About, How it works and Privacy & access pages do not include an analytics tag.
Read the full privacy notice →Embedded board generator
The embedded generator sends small usage counts to Catan Tools: widget loads, board generation, image download clicks, sharing actions and clicks to open the full generator. The server also counts map saves, loads and failed map requests.
We keep daily totals by embedding website hostname for historical reporting. These counters do not store IP addresses, account details, full referring page URLs or persistent visitor identifiers, and do not use cookies or browser storage. The embedding website is unavailable when the browser does not provide it.
Saved public boards separately include the requesting IP address. Temporary abuse controls use hashed IP addresses, and ordinary web-server logs may contain request details. The widget does not load advertising or third-party analytics scripts. Your own website’s scripts and privacy settings are separate.
