Classic setup guide

Build a balanced random Catan board, then plan the opening

This Catan map generator creates the familiar 19-tile island for three or four players while keeping the board controls above fast and unobstructed. Shuffle a new layout, adjust the setup rules, and reveal the resource letters only when everyone is ready to build the physical board.

Board generation and number balance

The generator shuffles terrain and number tokens while respecting the options you select, including whether high-probability 6 and 8 tokens may touch. These controls help produce a balanced Catan board generator result without forcing every game into the same pattern.

Ports and map codes

Keep the standard harbor order or shuffle the ports for a different trading puzzle. Saving creates a compact map code that restores the tile, number and port configuration, making a random Catan board easy to share or replay.

Starting-position analysis

After saving a setup, the analyzer scores every legal settlement intersection using number probability, resource diversity, city potential, road potential, harbor synergy and board-wide resource scarcity.

Opening-pair analysis

Pair recommendations look beyond the best single spot. They compare two compatible settlements, their combined resources and number coverage, then add seat-specific advice for the opening placement order.
